Supreme Court Decision - Hobby Lobby

I consider myself a pretty liberal person. Today's Supreme Court ruling regarding Hobby Lobby does not come to me as a surprise. With Justice Roberts as the swing vote, religious lawsuits will always win.

Many liberals are very angry. Spouting off that it is cutting off access to birth control for women. First off I want to point out one very obvious fact. Birth control was not BANNED by this decision. Second, birth control is not that expensive. Giving up two days of Starbucks coffee will pay for one month's supply. Three and the most glaring aspect. No one is forced to work for an employer that will not provide the coverage. I am so tired of people not using the common sense they are born with.

A Mother's Job is Never Done

I talked to my daughter last night. She first talked to her Dad, they spoke for almost one-half hour, all about the fun things she's doing, the exciting things that are happening in her life. I get on the phone, the first words out of her mouth "I'm sick again".

Ugh, I tell you, my relationship with her is so different than the one she has with her father. I will never understand it. She went on to tell me she wants her tonsils out this summer. I asked her to please go to the health center and have her throat checked for strep throat again. She has already had it twice this year and I don't want it to turn into mono. I also harped at her about taking care of herself. I asked her to please stop staying out so late and try to get more sleep. I heard myself saying the same things my mother used to tell me when I was 21. I never listened to that advice and I know she won't either.

For those of you that think that mothering stops when your child goes off to college or is on their own, it doesn't. A mother's job is never done.

My friend at work posted this great video on her page today. It's a hilarious look at what we say as parents everyday.

As I read this today...I think I do understand it. I've always been the caretaker. I've been the one she goes to when she's sick. I stayed home with her when she was little and nursed her back to her health. I've been the one that's talked to her about sex and all the bad things that could happen to her. I've been the buffer between she and her Dad. Her Dad is the provider, the one that does the fun stuff. So therein, lies the difference in our relationship.

Just buy the damn stamp!

Today, I was reminded why I want to die before I'm really old.

Had to go to the Wakarusa post office to purchase stamps for our office, because we are mailing out calendars and we didn't have enough postage on hand for them. Of course the line was long, because this is a small town and it's the week before Christmas. There was a very cute, little old lady in line. Cute until she got to the counter. She needed to purchase a "book" of stamps. Mind you the post office no longer sells stamps in books. She also wanted "American Flags" on her stamps. The post office was out of the stamps she wanted. The clerk proceeded to show her a flip book of the Forever stamps she had available to purchase. She must have went through the book 10 times. "But, I always send my mail with flag stamps". "Well you could come back in next week, we will have them then." "But, I have mail to send now." Five minutes later she decides to purchase some stamps with American scientists on them, but realizes she doesn't have her checkbook (I'm thinking to myself "oh no, you've got to be kidding me!). Another few minutes pass by as she figures out how much cash she has in her purse and how many stamps she can afford to buy.

Next year, I'll plan ahead and purchase stuff online!

Amanda's Big Day

This is my Amanda! Tonight's the opening night for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She has her dream role in the production...the narrator. For those of you who are not familiar with Joseph, the narrator sings the story of Joseph from beginning to end. You have to have a strong singing voice to take on this role.

We had no idea that Amanda had any kind of real singing talent until she was a freshman in high school. She had a small part in her middle school musical but she had a very soft soprano voice.
As a freshman she got the role of Mayzie in Suessical. Amanda was the first freshman in 10 years to get a lead part in the musical. When we heard her sing Mayzie's song for the first time we were floored. I guess we shouldn't have been surprised. Amanda had been preparing for the stage since she started giving shows by singing in her sandbox. We are nervous and excited for her tonight. Break a leg Amanda! Love you, Mom
